Imran Khan was removed from the post of PM after the National Assembly of Pakistan was dissolved. However, that caretaker can continue as PM for 15 days till the Prime Minister is appointed. During this time they will not have the right to make decisions.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has suggested the name of former judge Azmat Saeed for the caretaker PM. Saeed was part of the bench that convicted former PM Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers leak case.
Imran Khan will address Pakistan today at 3:30
Imran Khan will address the nation today at 3:30. Earlier on Sunday, the Parliament proceedings did not last even 10 minutes. The Deputy Speaker rejected the no-confidence motion and adjourned the proceedings of Parliament till April 25. Shortly after this, on the recommendation of Imran Khan, the President dissolved the National Assembly.
Supreme Court hearing on Monday
The matter of dismissal of the no-confidence motion reached the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandiyal himself took cognizance of the matter. He said- The Supreme Court has the right to interfere in the affairs of Parliament to an extent. Issued notices to many people including Speaker, Prime Minister, and President. A hearing on this will take place on Monday.
Justice Bandiyal's remark assumes significance as Fawad Chaudhry, who took charge of the Law Ministry two days ago in the Imran government, had said that Parliament is at the top and its decisions cannot be challenged in the Supreme Court or any other court.
Opposition ready
After the no-confidence motion was rejected, all the leaders of the opposition sat in the Parliament. After some time the matter reached the Supreme Court. Later, the Leader of the Opposition, Shahbaz Sharif, bluntly said – Imran Khan is full of pride. He has killed democracy.
He said that now we have hope that the Supreme Court will give constitutional rights to this country. We will wait for the Supreme Court's decision. If they are asking for elections, we are ready, but if there is a matter of voting on the no-confidence motion, we will welcome them.
What is Imran's status now?
According to Pakistan's constitutional expert Dr. Murtaza Ahmed, after the President's notification, Imran Khan is no longer the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Secondly, since the National Assembly has been dissolved, he is no longer the parliamentary leader of the ruling party.
According to Article 224, once the President issues a notification, the Prime Minister's selective administrative powers cease, i.e. he can continue as the Prime Minister for 15 days till the appointment of the Caretaker Prime Minister, but he has the right to make decisions. Will not be done. After this, the caretaker government will be formed for the rest of the time or till the elections are held. Imran will not be able to lead it.
