Air pollution is increasing in many states including Delhi NCR. From central to state governments are making efforts to stop the growing threat. Meanwhile, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has reached Berlin. He met Claudius da Costa Gomez, CEO of the German Biogas Association, here to tackle the problem of stubble burning. Germany is at the forefront of the world in producing biogas from stubble.

People will get relief by burning stubble

He said, 'The problem of stubble burning in Punjab is a cause of deep suffering. Dr. Claudius da Costa Gomez, CEO of the German Biogas Association, tried to find a solution to stubble burning, that would provide relief to people from stubble burning and also put the stubble to profitable use.

The problem of stubble burning is more in the Punjab

Hardeep Singh Puri said on social media platform X that the problem of stubble burning is very big in Punjab. So we met Dr. Claudius da Costa Gomez, CEO of the German Biogas Association, and tried to find a solution to stubble burning. He further said that the stubble can be used for biogas production, a process in which Germany leads the world.

So many metric tons of stubble is produced every year

Puri said it will accelerate India's quest for clean sources of energy under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and generate an additional source of income for farmers. Giving figures, he said that every year about 352 MT of stubble is produced in India. Of this, 22 percent is produced from wheat crops and 34 percent from rice. About 84 metric tons (23.86 percent) of this stubble is burnt in the field annually immediately after harvest. Using stubble for biogas would be a win.
