Pradeep Sarkar's career started not as a director, but as an editor. He started his career with Vidhu Vinod Chopra's production house. His first film was Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi's 'Munna Bhai MBBS', in which he worked in the editing department.
After this, in the year 2005, he made 'Parineeta', in which he cast Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan. This film got a lot of love from the audience.
As a director, he received the award for Best Art Direction, 'Most Promising Director, Best Director, and Best Debut Director for his first film. The film won five Filmfare Awards.

Pradeep Sarkar directed five films and four web series in his long film career. He made 'Laga Chunari Mein Daag' in the year 2007 with Rani Mukherjee. Konkona Sen Sharma and Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan were also in lead roles along with Rani in this film.
