A statement issued on Monday from the President's office stated that President Bhandari has taken steps for the new government through Article 76 (2) of the Nepal Constitution. As per the provisions of the constitution, the candidate must have the signature of the MPs. Nepal's President Bidya Devi Bhandari has asked all parties to stake a claim to form a majority government. Earlier, the opposition parties had appealed to the President to start the process of formation of the new government.
