Defense Minister to stay in Vietnam till June 10
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has paid an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam. He will be in Vietnam from June 8 to June 10. Singh began his visit by paying homage at the tomb of late President Ho Chi Minh in Hanoi.
Defense cooperation will be reviewed
Rajnath Singh will review defense cooperation between the two countries and explore new initiatives to further strengthen defense ties during his bilateral meeting with Vietnam's National Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang. The two ministers will also exchange views on regional and global issues of common interest. The Defense Minister is also scheduled to meet Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chin.
India to hand over high-speed guard boat to Vietnam
At the Hong Ha Shipyard in Hai Phong, Singh will preside over the handing over of 12 high-speed guard boats built under the Indian government's USD 100 million defense line of credit to Vietnam. The project is significant in the context of growing defense industry cooperation with Vietnam.
Defense Minister to interact with the Indian community
During the visit, the Defense Minister will also visit Vietnam's training institutes in Nha Trang, including the University of Telecommunications, where an Army Software Park is being set up with a grant of USD 5 million from the Government of India. He will also participate in a community event organized by the Embassy of India, Hanoi, and interact with the Indian diaspora in Vietnam.
50 years since the establishment of India-Vietnam diplomatic relations
India and Vietnam share a comprehensive strategic partnership since 2016 and defense cooperation is a key pillar of this partnership. The ministry said that Vietnam is an important partner in India's Act East policy and Indo-Pacific vision. The visit of the Defense Minister on the historic occasion of 50 years of establishment of India-Vietnam diplomatic relations and 75 years of India's independence will further strengthen bilateral defense cooperation and comprehensive strategic partnership.
