He was accompanied by 2 to 3 more terrorists. Reliable sources gave this information to the police on Tuesday night itself. As soon as the information was received, the SOG of Police, 55 RR of Army and CRPF 185 battalion personnel had laid siege to village Pegipora. In search of Naiku in the morning, when the house-to-house search was started, the terrorists started firing on the security forces.

Riyaz Naikoo took over as commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen after Hizbul's posters and commander Burhan Wani were killed. Vani was killed in an encounter with security forces on 8 July 2016 in the Kokernag area of ​​Anantnag district. The security forces placed a reward of Rs 12 lakh on Naiku's head.

Before joining Hizbul, Nayaku taught mathematics at a local school. He was known to paint roses before raising a gun at the age of 33. When Zakir Musa, a commander of Hizbul, formed Ansar Gajwat ul Hind through the organization, Naiku played a key role in keeping Hizbul united. Musa split from Hizbul in 2017 to form his own group that claimed to be an ally of Qaeda's Indian ally. On 23 May 2019, Moosa was killed in Dadrasara area of ​​Tral Tehsil in an encounter with security forces. After that, all the terrorists of Moosa's organization were killed by the security forces.

Nayaku was considered a fierce terrorist in the valley. He is said to be responsible for killing 20 people, including four policemen. Naiku's name quickly emerged as commander after the killing of terrorist Burhan Wani in July 2016. After Burhan is killed, the plan of taking out a procession in the funeral of the terrorists is considered to be the brainchild of this. Naiku became the top commander of Hizbul after Burhan Wani was killed. After the death of Wani, he pressed for more and more people to join the procession of the slain terrorists and he succeeded to a great extent. Naiku used to incite the youth joining these processions to go on the path of terror and trick and mislead them to hold a gun.
