Russia Ukraine News: India said in UNSC - safe passage not yet made for Indians trapped in Sumi

Efforts are on by the government to bring back the Indians trapped in Ukraine. Every day many flights are returning home with Indian citizens. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the safe evacuation of Indians.

 

Ukraine was discussed in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). India's Permanent Representative TS Tirumurti said, "India has demanded safe passage for all innocent citizens, Indian citizens from Ukraine. Despite our requests from both sides, a safe corridor for our students stranded in Sumi could not be built.

He further said that we have been able to facilitate the safe return of more than 20 thousand Indians from Ukraine. We have helped citizens of other countries to return to their respective countries.

 

PM Modi talks to Putin and Zelensky

 

Earlier on Monday, PM Modi held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Many issues were discussed in the conversation of about 50 minutes with Putin. PM Modi appreciated the announcement of a ceasefire in parts of Ukraine, including Sumy, and the move to build humanitarian corridors. Modi also stressed the speedy evacuation of Indian nationals from Sumi.

 

Before Putin, Modi held talks with Zelensky for about 35 minutes. The two leaders discussed the situation in Ukraine. The Prime Minister appreciated the ongoing direct talks between Russia and Ukraine.

 

ceasefire declared in five cities

 

Russia on Tuesday declared a ceasefire to open humanitarian corridors in Ukraine's cities of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Mariupol. A ceasefire has been declared at 10 a.m. Moscow time.
