Ukraine's nuclear plants are now also being targeted in Russia's attacks. On Friday (March 4), a Russian firing caused a fire in Ukraine's zaporizhzhia power plant, after which there is panic all over the world. The possibility of spreading nuclear radiation from here has increased. Also, the electricity supply in Ukraine has been disrupted. Apart from this, Ukraine claims that Russia has also captured the zaporizhzhia power plant. In this special report, we know how many power plants are there in Ukraine? How many of them are working and how many are supplying electricity. At the same time, what will be the effect on the people of Ukraine due to the fire at zaporizhzhia Power Plant?

How many power plants are there in Ukraine?

According to the information, there are a total of four nuclear plants in different parts of Ukraine in zaporizhzhia , Rivn, Khmelnytskyi, and South Ukraine, from which 15 nuclear reactors are operated. According to a report released on February 1, all of Ukraine's nuclear reactors were working and supplying power to the electrical grid. However, six out of 15 nuclear reactors stopped working after the Russian attack, causing a severe power outage in Ukraine. At the same time, nuclear plants are under construction in Kharkiv, Odesa, Crimea, and Cherian. Nuclear analyst James M. Aston at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace pointed out that in general, nuclear plants are not designed as war zones. This is the reason why Ukraine's nuclear reactors are constantly being targeted due to Russia's attack.

Ukraine's energy-producing cities under attack

Significantly, Russia is constantly targeting the energy-producing cities of Ukraine. Most Russian forces had stormed and captured the Chernobyl plant. However, this plant was closed for a long time. After this, the zaporizhzhia plant was attacked on Friday morning, due to which there was a fire. The Russian army has also captured it. Apart from this, the Russian army has also started taking control of the cities of Odesa and Mariupol. These two cities produce a quarter of Ukraine's electricity.

Zelensky made this statement after the fire in zaporizhzhia

After the fire at the zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant, officials said that all the workers of the plant are safe and the radiation level is also normal. During this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of resorting to nuclear terror. Also, said that Putin wants to repeat the Chernobyl accident of 1986. If there is an explosion, everything will be over. Europe will end.

What is the importance of the zaporizhzhia Plant?

The zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant, located 550 kilometers southeast of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, supplies a quarter of Ukraine's electricity needs. According to the information, Russian forces opened fire on the zaporizhzhia plant on Friday morning, causing a fire there. The plant was constructed between 1984 and 1995. It is the largest nuclear plant in Europe, which is ranked ninth in the world. The plant has a total of six reactors, which supply a total of 5700 MW of electricity. That is, 950 MW of power is supplied from one reactor. If you look at the figures, this power plant supplies electricity to about 4 million homes across Ukraine. In normal times, the plant produces one-fifth of Ukraine's electricity supply and about half of the energy generated from the country's nuclear power facilities.
