Russian news agencies reported that Soyuz MS-23 has been sent on a mission to bring back three astronauts stranded at the International Space Station. In fact, due to a leak in the cooling system of the capsule of the Russian Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft that brought them back, it is no longer capable of carrying passengers. According to the media, the Soyuz MS-23 was launched from the Baikonur Space Center in Kazakhstan and has been placed in orbit.

The leak caused by micro-meteoroid impact

At the same time, the damaged MS-22 spacecraft is now going to land in March without astronauts. Both NASA and Roscosmos believe that last year's leak on the MS-22 spacecraft was caused by a small piece of a micro-meteoroid hitting the capsule. The same reason is believed to have caused a leak in the cooling system of the Progress MS-21 cargo plane that was deorbited last week. According to reports, 430 kilograms (about 950 pounds) of cargo was sent, which included medical equipment, scientific equipment, water, food, and cleaning supplies.

Three times more food is sent into space

A Russian space official has been quoted as saying that the amount of food sent is three times more than what is usually sent. The leak has forced NASA and Roscosmos to rearrange their schedules and postpone planned spacewalks.
