Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said on Thursday that 23 of his soldiers were killed and 58 others wounded in a Ukrainian artillery attack this week. In a statement posted on Telegram, Kadyrov said that the incident took place in the southern Kherson region.

Since the start of the war, pro-Moscow forces have rarely acknowledged major losses on the battlefield. Kadyrov's comments were unusual. The incident took place in the southern Kherson region, Kadyrov said on Telegram.

23 Russian soldiers killed and 58 wounded - Ramzan Kadyrov

Allied Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said, "All rescue operations at the scene have been completed and according to the final list of dead and wounded, 23 soldiers were killed and 58 were wounded." Kadyrov, the head of Russia's southern Muslim-majority region of Chechnya, describes himself as a Putin foot soldier and says he has sent thousands of people to fight in the war.

Told the death of soldiers a matter of happiness

Ramzan Kadyrov went on to say, 'Yes, we had a great loss early that day, but Chechens are participating in jihad... and even if they are dying in the holy war it is an honor and an honor for every true Muslim. It is a matter of great happiness.' Ramzan Kadyrov further said that after this deadly attack by Ukraine, Chechen forces also attacked in revenge, and about 70 Ukrainian soldiers were killed.
