
Jammu, Feb 27 (IANS) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed Friday staked claim to form the next government in the state.
"This followed his unanimous election as the leader of the PDP legislature party that emerged as the single largest party in the recent election. The meeting of legislature party was held here today. Senior leader Abdul Rehman Veeri presided over the meeting," said a PDP statement.
The development followed the meeting Mufti had with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi earlier in the day, it added.
"In his letter to the governor, Mufti Sayeed informed him that with the support of the BJP, the PDP led coalition would enjoy a clear majority and was in a position to provide a stable government in the state in the wake of a split verdict."
Official sources told IANS that the swearing-in ceremony will be held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium of the Jammu University at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Speaking to media persons after his meeting with the prime minister in New Delhi, Sayeed said Modi would be attending the swearing-in function after which a joint press conference would be held by the two leaders.
