Screening of 'Chhava' banned in Belgaum, Karnataka, controversy escalates over police action; what is the whole matter?

Protests continue over the screening of 'Chhava' in Belgaum, Karnataka. Tension prevailed in Belgaum on Saturday evening when the police department stopped the screening of the recorded version of the Hindi film 'Chhava' starring Vicky Kaushal in various areas of Belgaum.

 

'Chhava' became a blockbuster on the big screen and is running successfully in the third week as well. Meanwhile, some youth organizations were showing the recorded version of the film on the streets to the public using projectors without prior permission. The police department stopped the screening of the film at various places in Belgaum City, Kadoli Village, and Nippani Town.

 

People's anger erupted.

 

During the action, the police had to face the anger of the people.

 

Especially in Chandrashekhar Azad Gali of Kadoli, it took four hours for the police to convince the public and the organizers on Saturday night.

 

In Nippani town, the police have registered a case against the organizers.

 

Several youth organizations in Belagavi city organized street shows with recorded versions of the film using tractor trolleys to set up white screens.

 

Currently, the film is being screened in four theatres in Belagavi city.

 

Where was the film banned?

 

The film 'Chhava' is the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's struggle against the Mughals. Sambhaji was the second ruler of the Maratha Empire and the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

 

City Police Commissioner Ida Martin Marbaniang said, 'We have not received any complaint from the film distributor or any other official regarding the illegal screening of the film. We have stopped the screening of the film at public places organized without police permission.
