New Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS) A 44-year-old woman, suffering from swine flu for over a week, has become the sixth fatality due to the disease in the national capital, a health official said Monday.
Seven new cases of swine flu were reported Monday, taking the total to 51 this year.
"The patient succumbed to the disease Sunday evening. Her complications also aggravated because she was suffering from uncontrollable diabetes," health department official Charan Singh told IANS.
He said the woman was a resident of west Delhi and was admitted to a private hospital in the area. Her samples were confirmed at a Delhi government-authorised laboratory.
The five people who earlier died were two from west Delhi aged 38 and 42, a 30-year-old man from east Delhi, a 39-year-old man from Faridabad in neighbouring Haryana and a 51-year-old woman from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh who were admitted in city hospitals.
The seven new cases in the capital have been reported from Dakshinpuri, Brijpuri, Patel Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Defence Colony and Siddharth Extension.
They have been admitted to Delhi government authorised hospitals, the official said.
