'Trinamool's Public Standing has Nose-Dived'

Kolkata, Jan 12 (IANS) West Bengal human rights panel's former chief Asok Kumar Ganguly Monday said the public standing of the state's ruling Trinamool Congress has nosedived after the arrest and summoning of its top leaders by the CBI in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.

Reacting to the summoning of Trinamool national general secretary and former railways minister Mukul Roy - considered the right hand man of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Ganguly said: "CBI (Central Bureau of investigation) probe is on. It is part of that process."

"Trinamool's standing has nosedived in the eyes of the people. They came to power after winning a democratic election. Now, whatever the people understand about the situation, will happen," said the former apex court judge.

Asked whether he thought the Trinamool had a hand in the Saradha scam, Ganguly shot back: "Is there any doubt about that? That's the reason they went all out to prevent a CBI probe."
