A heartbreaking incident in Shillong, Meghalaya has shocked the whole country. Now according to the police, Sonam, along with her lover Raj Kushwaha and three others, killed her husband Raja. Now there has been a new twist in this case, when two accused withdrew their earlier confession and kept silent before the magistrate.
Meghalaya Police say that five people were involved in this murder, out of which two accused, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi, refused to give any statement before the magistrate on Thursday. According to NDTV, Shillong City Superintendent of Police Herbert Kharkongor said that both the accused kept silent and did not give any statement. Herbert is the head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the case.
Police have a wealth of evidence, awaiting the FSL report.
"We produced two of the five accused before a magistrate. They refused to give any statement. But we have enough evidence against them. We are also waiting for the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report," Kharkongor said.
It is their right not to confess. But we have concrete evidence, which is very crucial in this case. - Herbert Kharkongor, Superintendent of Police, Shillong City
Police had earlier claimed that all the accused had confessed to the crime. But now the withdrawal of statements by Akash and Anand has brought a new twist to the investigation. Still, police say they have enough evidence to prove the murder.
