Sonam Raghuvanshi: 'Confessed to the crime in front of the police, but changed his statement in front of the judge'; New twist in Raja Raghuvanshi case

A heartbreaking incident in Shillong, Meghalaya has shocked the whole country. Now according to the police, Sonam, along with her lover Raj Kushwaha and three others, killed her husband Raja. Now there has been a new twist in this case, when two accused withdrew their earlier confession and kept silent before the magistrate.

 

Meghalaya Police say that five people were involved in this murder, out of which two accused, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi, refused to give any statement before the magistrate on Thursday. According to NDTV, Shillong City Superintendent of Police Herbert Kharkongor said that both the accused kept silent and did not give any statement. Herbert is the head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the case.

Police have a wealth of evidence, awaiting the FSL report.

 

"We produced two of the five accused before a magistrate. They refused to give any statement. But we have enough evidence against them. We are also waiting for the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report," Kharkongor said.

Police had earlier claimed that all the accused had confessed to the crime. But now the withdrawal of statements by Akash and Anand has brought a new twist to the investigation. Still, police say they have enough evidence to prove the murder.

 

Honeymoon couple missing, murder revealed

The case began when Raja and Sonam disappeared after checking out of a homestay in Nongriat village on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. On June 2, Raja's body was found 20 kilometers away from that place. A few days later, Sonam was arrested by the police from Ghazipur.
