Chennai, Jan 10 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam Saturday said his government would take all measures to ensure traditional Jallikattu (bull taming) was held and the central government would be urged to remove bulls from the list of animals not to be trained for public performance.
In a statement issued here, Panneerselvam said a state government team would meet the central officials Jan 12 and urge them to remove bulls from the list put out by the the environment and forest ministry.
He said once the central government issues a notification, then the state government on its part would issue a notification that would enable holding of Jallikattu without contravening the apex court's order banning the sport.
Jallikattu is a popular sport in several villages in the state and is held during the Pongal festival.
