India beat Sri Lanka by 62 runs in the first T20 International to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. This is Team India's 10th consecutive win in this format. India has surpassed Pakistan's record of 9 consecutive wins. The world record is in the name of Afghanistan (12 wins).

Batting first after losing the toss, India scored 199/2 in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan (89) was the top scorer, while Shreyas Iyer played an unbeaten inning of 57 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma scored 44 runs. In reply, Sri Lanka's team could score only 137 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Charit Aslanka scored the highest 53 (not out). Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Venkatesh Iyer took two wickets each.

Bad start for Sri Lanka

Chasing the target, Sri Lanka had a poor start and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled Pathum Nisanka (0) on the very first ball. In the third over, Bhuvi put the brakes on Kamil Mishara (13)'s innings. Venkatesh Iyer got the third success for the Indian team by dismissing Zenith Liyanage (11). Sanju Samson caught Zenith at the catch point. Experienced player Dinesh Chandimal (10) also could not play big innings. Ravindra Jadeja stumped Chandimal at the hands of Ishan Kishan.

Yuzvendra Chahal took the wicket of captain Dasun Shanaka (3). Charit Aslanka, batting brilliantly, completed the third half-century of his T20 career in 43 balls. He remained unbeaten on 53. Dushmanta Chamira also played an unbeaten inning of 24 runs, but could not win the team.

Team India rained heavily

Batting first after losing the toss, India got off to a good start. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan added 111 runs in 71 balls for the first wicket. This excellent partnership was broken by Lahiru Kumara by bowling Rohit (44). After this, Ishaan added 44 runs in 31 balls with Shreyas Iyer for the second wicket.

Ishan Kishan, who was on his way to the first century in T20I, was dismissed for 89 off Dasun Shanaka's delivery. Shreyas and Ravindra Jadeja added 44 not out off 18 balls for the third wicket. Shreyas Iyer scored 57 not out off 28 balls and Jadeja scored 3 not out off 4 balls.

Rohit becomes Sartaj of T20

With his 37th run in his innings, Rohit became the highest run-scorer in T20 International cricket. He broke New Zealand's Martin Guptill (3,299)'s record. Before this match, Rohit was third behind Guptill and Virat Kohli (3,296). Now he has become number-1.

Rituraj's wrist pain

Rituraj Gaikwad was not available for selection in the first match due to pain in the wrist of his right hand. The medical team of BCCI is investigating his injury.

Sri Lanka could not beat India for 6 years

For 6 years, the Indian team has not lost a single match against Sri Lanka on home soil. In 2016, the Lankan team defeated Team India for the last time on its soil. The history of cricket between India and Sri Lanka is very old. In the T20 matches between the two teams, Team India has won 22 and the Lankan team has won 7. One match ended without any result.

Hooda got a chance to debut

This was Deepak Hooda's first T20 International match. He became the 97th player to make his T20 debut for Team India. Captain Rohit handed over the T20 cap to Hooda. Apart from them, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sanju Sanson returned to the playing XI.
