Great start for India on day one
Indian players got off to a good start on the first day of the 22nd Commonwealth Games. In boxing, Indian boxer Shiv Thapa defeated his Pakistani opponent. India also defeated Pakistan in the mixed team event of badminton. In women's hockey, India defeated Ghana by a huge margin of 5-0 in the first match.
The first gold of the Commonwealth Games went to England. Olympic champion Alex Yi won his first gold medal in triathlon.
India won 5-0
The Indian women's hockey team, which finished fourth in the Tokyo Olympics, demolished Ghana's challenge in a one-sided fashion. Gurjit Kaur scored the highest two goals for India. Neha, Sangeeta and Salima Tete scored 1-1.

In the badminton mixed team event, India thrashed Pakistan like a novice. Indian players won straight games first in mixed doubles followed by men's singles and doubles and women's singles and doubles.
Swimmer Srihari in final
