On Monday itself, the High Court had ordered a complete lockdown in Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Gorakhpur by April 26. The Yogi government filed a petition in the Supreme Court against this.
Meanwhile, once again the Yogi government has decided to impose a weekly lockdown across the state. Meaning, everything will be closed in the state every Saturday and Sunday. Only emergency facilities will continue. Until now only Sunday had a lockdown. Apart from this, in the districts where there are more than 500 active cases, every day, from 8 a.m. till 07 o'clock the next day, all other activities except the essential services will be banned.
UP government said- Lockdown is not right
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who is making arguments for the UP government, said that the state government has taken several steps. We have received some instructions and we do not object to this, but it will not be right to impose lockdown in 5 cities through a judicial order.
On this, the Chief Justice said that even the High Court has not said about the complete lockdown. This type of lockdown can cause administrative problems. In such a situation, an interim stay on the High Court's decision will stay. However, the UP government should tell the High Court within a week what steps it is taking.
More than 28 thousand patients found on Monday
The second wave of Karona is becoming uncontrollable in the state. The death toll is also increasing with new infections every day. On Monday, 28,211 new infections were identified in the state and 167 people died.

Earlier in Saharanpur, BJP leader and former MP Jagdish Rana died on Monday night due to Corona. He was 67 years old. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Faridabad for 12 days. Rana was a three-time MLA from Muzaffarabad seat and was elected as an MP from Saharanpur on a BSP ticket in 2009. He joined BJP in 2016.
