Meanwhile, a top Chinese health official has said that China is facing the first of three possible waves of COVID-19 this winter. The epidemiologist said he believes the current spike in infection rates will last until mid-January, while the second wave is likely to intensify by the end of January. Junyo further said that the third surge in coronavirus cases will last from late February to mid-March, as people return to work after spending their holidays.
