Durg (Chhattisgarh), April 22 (IANS) Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday promised the poor living in Chhattisgarh that UPA III would provide them free housing and medical facilities if it returns to power.
"In keeping with your expectation, if UPA III forms government at the centre, we will provide you free houses and medical facilities," Gandhi said in an election rally in Durg district.
Gandhi trashed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s development claims, noting the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) registered better growth rate than the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.
"We built three times more roads than the NDA government. We provided two times more electricity, and our growth rate has been better than the NDA government," Gandhi said.
