Top US lawmakers have described China as a threat to America's existence in the Republican-majority House of Representatives. He also called for making every effort to coordinate with our allies to successfully deal with the challenges facing Communist Party-led China.
America has been describing China's behavior as aggressive till now. The name of the newly formed committee is 'House Select Committee on Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'. In his opening remarks on Tuesday, committee chairman and MP Mike Gallagher told his colleagues in Congress (US Parliament) during a hearing on the China issue, this is not a tennis match. It is a struggle for survival what life will look like in the 21st century and basic liberties are at stake. We must act with a sense of urgency, said Gallagher, the former intelligence officer. Our policy over the next ten years will set the stage for the next hundred.
'Democrats and Republicans underestimated China'
Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamurthy also underlined the dangers emanating from China. He said, over the past three decades, both the Democrats and Republicans underestimated the CCP and believed that trade and investment would inevitably lead to democracy and greater security in the trans-Pacific region, including the PRC. But everything happened on the contrary.
'China's economy grew more than ten times
China's economy has grown more than tenfold since gaining access to the US and global markets, Krishnamurthy said, adding that the CCP has consolidated its authoritarian control, including engaging in the genocide of the Uyghur people. The CCP has threatened its neighbors including Taiwan and funded the construction of massive military infrastructure. It has pursued economic and trade policies that undermine the US economy.
'China's aggression has to be stopped for lasting peace'
He further said that the US should continue to invest in high-technology sectors of the future and promote American manufacturing. It must contain the aggression of the CCP. We don't want a war with the PRC, we don't want a cold war, we don't want a hot war, we don't want a clash of civilizations, Krishnamurti said. But, we want lasting peace. And that is why we have to stop the aggression. He said the US should strengthen its global partnerships and alliances not only to counter the CCP's security challenges but also to counter its anti-competitive economic policies.
'China's trade policy puts US industry out of business'
Congresswoman Claudia Tenney said, the CPC's influence has harmed Americans. Government-sponsored espionage efforts have stolen American intellectual property and its unfair trade tactics have put American industries out of business. China is now leveraging its economic influence to spread a dangerous, anti-liberty authoritarian model to other countries, he said.
