Amid the growing threat of a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, immunization of adolescents is starting from Monday. First of all, children in the age group of 15-18 years will be vaccinated. Only Bharat Biotech's Covaccine has been approved for this age group. The company claimed that its vaccine is more effective on children than on adults. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has asked states and union territories to make special arrangements to avoid vaccine mixing.

Over six lakh registrations

The registration for the vaccination of adolescents had started on the Cowin portal from Saturday itself. According to the data of the portal till 7 pm on Sunday, more than six lakh registrations have been done in this age group. According to the new guidelines issued for the vaccination of adolescents, along with registration on the Cowin portal, there is a facility for on-spot registration as well. Adolescents from far-flung areas or where there is no internet facility can register directly by visiting the vaccine center and they will also be vaccinated immediately.

Health Minister's meeting

To ensure smooth implementation of the guidelines, Union Health Minister Mandaviya held an online meeting with Health Ministers of States and Union Territories and Principal Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary (Health). He also advised the adolescents in the age group of 15-18 to ensure the orientation of vaccinated and immunization team members and to provide accurate information about vaccination centers to the beneficiaries.

Create separate teams for teenagers

Since only the vaccine is to be given to adolescents, Mandaviya has decided to set up separate vaccination centers for adolescents, separate timings, if at the same time, separate lines and separate teams to avoid vaccine mixing during vaccination. has also been advised. Explain that adults are already being vaccinated and they are being given the Covaccine as well as the Covishield and Sputnik V vaccines.

Information sought from states about the need for a vaccine

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, it has been said that using the Cowin portal, the states, and union territories should inform the required dosage of the vaccine based on beneficiaries at the district level. Along with this, the pre-determined vaccination centers have also been asked to plan the distribution of the vaccine. According to the ministry, the stock of 19.81 crore doses is still lying with the states and union territories.

Detailed discussion on many issues took place in the meeting

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan was also present in the online meeting of the states with Mandaviya. In this, all aspects of corona management were discussed in detail, including strengthening facilities in the hospital, increasing testing, and taking strict measures to break the chain of the spread of infection. Special emphasis was also given to compliance with the rules of prevention from Corona.
