The first day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025, December 24th, will be remembered for a long time in the history of Indian domestic cricket. Three players from Bihar stole the show, and records tumbled one after another within a few hours. The innings played by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Sakibul Gani, and Ishan Kishan on the same day transformed the Vijay Hazare Trophy into a record-breaking spectacle. Sakibul is the captain of the Bihar team, while Vaibhav is an opener for Bihar. Ishan plays for Jharkhand, but his family lives in Bihar, and he hails from Bihar.
Gani's Storm After Vaibhav's Brilliance
First, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the second fastest Indian to score a century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and List A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 36 balls against Arunachal Pradesh. However, his record didn't last even an hour. Bihar captain Sakibul Gani, batting even faster in the same match, scored a century in just 32 balls, claiming the record for the fastest century by an Indian in List A cricket.
Gani Hits 10 Fours and 12 Sixes
In the match against Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, batting first, unleashed a storm that proved impossible for the opposing bowlers to contain. Bihar scored 574 runs for six wickets in 50 overs, the highest score ever in List A cricket. The foundation of this historic innings was laid by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored 190 runs off 84 balls. His innings included 16 fours and 15 sixes. He was supported by Ayush Loharuka, who scored 116 runs off 56 balls, while Piyush Singh contributed 77 runs.
However, the biggest highlight of the match was captain Sakibul Gani, who scored an unbeaten 128 runs off just 40 balls, completing his century in 32 balls and breaking Vaibhav's record. Gani hit 10 fours and 12 sixes in his innings. The 574 runs became the highest team score ever in List A cricket. Previously, the highest score in List A cricket belonged to Tamil Nadu, who scored 506 for two wickets against Arunachal Pradesh in 2022.
Ishan Kishan's brilliance
Meanwhile, another match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, played between Jharkhand and Karnataka, also made its way into the record books. Jharkhand captain Ishan Kishan played a blistering innings against Karnataka, scoring a century in just 33 balls. This innings by Ishan became one of the fastest centuries in Indian domestic cricket history. He scored 125 runs off 39 balls, including 14 sixes and seven fours. Thanks to his explosive batting, Jharkhand scored 412 for nine wickets in 50 overs. Ishan now holds the record for the second-fastest century by an Indian in List A cricket.
