Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Friday announced that Uttar Pradesh has been ranked as the best state in water conservation efforts for 2020. The Ministry of Jal Shakti awarded the second and third places to Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu for their work and efforts towards water conservation. Addressing the National Water Awards 2020, the Jal Shakti Minister said that the country needs 1,000 billion cubic meters of water every year to meet its agricultural, irrigation, industrial, and domestic requirements.

Shekhawat said that the use of water is increasing but its availability is decreasing. Rain patterns are changing. Water demand will increase from 1,000 billion cubic meters to 1400-1500 billion cubic meters by 2050. So we should move forward together by adopting a positive attitude and taking effective steps.
