
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Friday announced that Uttar Pradesh has been ranked as the best state in water conservation efforts for 2020. The Ministry of Jal Shakti awarded the second and third places to Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu for their work and efforts towards water conservation. Addressing the National Water Awards 2020, the Jal Shakti Minister said that the country needs 1,000 billion cubic meters of water every year to meet its agricultural, irrigation, industrial, and domestic requirements.
Shekhawat said that the use of water is increasing but its availability is decreasing. Rain patterns are changing. Water demand will increase from 1,000 billion cubic meters to 1400-1500 billion cubic meters by 2050. So we should move forward together by adopting a positive attitude and taking effective steps.
Award for Best District in Northern Zone to Muzaffarnagar
Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh got the award for the best district in the northern region, followed by Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar in Punjab got the second award. In the south, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala was given the award for the best district followed by Cuddapah in Andhra Pradesh.
East Champaran got first place in Eastern Region
East Champaran in Bihar and Godda in Jharkhand were ranked first and second among districts in the eastern zone, while Indore in Madhya Pradesh was ranked first in the western zone. Gujarat's Vadodara and Rajasthan's Banswara jointly secured the second position. Goalpara in Assam and Siang in Arunachal Pradesh in the North East region were recognized for their water conservation efforts.
