WB SSC Scam: Despite the detention, the agency did not
The agency had sought further CBI custody of Bhattacharya for questioning. Rejecting the agency's appeal, the Alipore Court sent Bhattacharya to judicial custody till October 10. Opposing the CBI's request, Bhattacharya's counsel Tamal Mukherjee submitted that the agency has not questioned the NBU vice-chancellor despite being in custody for six days.
WB SSC Scam: Bhattacharya was the chairman of SSC from 2014 to 2018
The CBI has alleged that it was involved in manipulating the scores of candidates before the panel was prepared to provide teachers jobs to ineligible persons in state government-sponsored and aided schools. Bhattacharya was the chairman of SSC from 2014 to 2018, when Partha Chatterjee was the state's education minister. Chatterjee, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with its probe into alleged money laundering in the SSC recruitment scam, is currently in judicial custody. Bhattacharya is the Vice-Chancellor of NBU since February 2018.
