A professor at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) in Karnataka's Bengaluru has been suspended after he called a Muslim student a 'terrorist' during class. A video of the incident is going viral on social media. In this, after addressing the student as a terrorist, a fierce debate is seen between the student and the professor for 45 seconds. Manipal University came under the scanner after this video went viral. After this, the university took action against the professor and clarified its stand regarding the matter.

 

In the viral video, the student is seen confronting the professor when he called the student 'Kasab' (the name of the terrorist involved in the 26/11 Mumbai attack) during class. In the video, the student can be heard saying that being a Muslim and facing this every day is not strange. When the teacher replied that the student was like his son, he said no, if a father says so, it is on him. It's not funny. Would you talk to your son like this? Would you call him a terrorist? How can you say that to me in front of so many people? This is a society, you are a professional, and you are teaching. How can you do this? How can you say that to me?

 

In the viral video, mostly only the student can be heard answering. The assistant professor seems to be clarifying that he had said this in a joking manner. To this, the student replied that 26/11 is not a joke. Being a Muslim in this country and having to deal with all this every day is not fun, sir. You can't joke about my religion, that too in a derogatory manner. However, in the video, the professor can also be seen apologizing to the student. After the video went viral, MIT suspended the professor and ordered an internal inquiry. There is no preliminary information available on how the conversation started between the student and. At the same time, later the student told that he and the assistant professor have resolved their differences. He had said this in jest, but if I found it wrong, I protested. On the other hand, SP Kar, director of public relations of the university, told that the incident happened last week.
