China on Thursday said on the Russian "attack" in Ukraine that it stands by its stand to resolve the issue through dialogue with both sides. China, however, refused to call Russia's attacks in the eastern European state of Ukraine an "aggression". Not only this, instead he fiercely criticized the US and its allies for making the crisis worse. Russia's close ally China called on all parties involved in the Ukraine issue to exercise restraint and refrain from taking any step that could escalate further tensions.

China brushed aside questions about whether the Russian military's attack on Ukraine early Thursday was an invasion. In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said that the matter has its roots in the historical and present scenario.

According to Xinhua, Zhang said, “China is paying attention to the emerging situation in Ukraine. China's position on safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries has been consistent. The purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter must be jointly upheld.

"We believe that the Ukraine issue has its roots in historical and current factors. The situation has reached this point due to the interaction of those factors. In the present scenario, all concerned should exercise restraint and should not take any step which will lead to further tension.

"China is closely monitoring the latest developments," Hua Chunying said at Thursday's regular ministry briefing. We still hope that the parties concerned will not close the doors to peace and engage in dialogue and consultations to take the situation forward. will stop it."

China has in recent weeks blamed the US and its Western allies for "aggravating" the crisis. China said in an earlier briefing on Wednesday that the US was "adding fuel to the fire."

In a televised address, Russian President Putin said Russia's move to conduct military operations in Ukraine was taken because of the threat posed by that country. He also warned that if they interfered with Russia's actions, they would face "consequences they would never have seen."

Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Zhang Jun called on all parties involved in the crisis to exercise restraint and avoid escalating the situation. He said, “China believes that the door to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine issue is not completely closed and should not be closed. Will continue to promote dialogue."

China has already strongly criticized Western sanctions on Russia and Hua has called them "illegal unilateral sanctions". The Chinese government's position, he said, is that imposing sanctions has never been a fundamental and effective way of solving problems.

Earlier, the Chinese embassy in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv issued a warning to its citizens to stay at home and put up a Chinese flag inside or on their vehicle if they need to travel long distances.
