Meta Apologises for Removing PM Modi's Video, Blames Technical Glitch After Government Summons

Posted on 28th Jul 2026 02:05 pm by rohit kumar

Meta has apologized after a Facebook video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi was temporarily removed from its platform, attributing the incident to a technical glitch rather than any policy violation. The company said the content was restored immediately after the issue was identified, while the Central Government has launched an inquiry and may summon Meta officials to explain the incident.

According to sources, the government is closely examining the circumstances surrounding the removal of the Prime Minister’s official video and verifying Meta’s explanation. Officials are expected to review whether the takedown was genuinely caused by a technical error or resulted from another issue.

A Meta spokesperson acknowledged the mistake, stating that the video was removed unintentionally due to a technical problem and was reinstated as soon as the company became aware of the error. The company also expressed regret for the incident.

The video, uploaded on July 23, featured Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing Gen-Z students during a public event and discussing the government's response to the NEET paper leak issue. While the video remained available on Instagram, reports suggested that it was briefly inaccessible to Facebook users in India before being restored.

The content had reportedly attracted millions of views across Meta platforms, making its temporary disappearance a matter of public attention. Following Meta’s apology, the government is continuing its review to ensure similar incidents do not occur in the future.
