Sri Lanka's crisis: PM Ranil Wickremesinghe took over as Finance Minister to improve the country's economic situation, President administered oath

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is facing an economic crisis, has been sworn in as the Finance Minister. After assuming this post, his first task will be to get the country out of the crisis. For this, they will hold talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

 

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa expanded Wickremesinghe's cabinet to include new ministers on 24 May. But he had not appointed any finance minister.

Recently, to overcome the economic crisis, the Ranil Wickremesinghe government of Sri Lanka decided to sell the state-run airline. Along with this, the government also decided to print new currency. In an interview, Wickremesinghe had said that he would present the interim budget in 6 weeks and cut down on infrastructure projects.

Ranil, 73, is considered the best political administrator in the country and a pro-American. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa administered him the oath of office and secrecy as the Prime Minister of the Unity Government. He has been the Prime Minister five times in the past as well.

A few months back the economic crisis started in the country. Now in danger of bankruptcy. Gradually it became clear that the Rajapaksa family had misused their political clout very badly. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Strong nepotism even among cabinet ministers. The country went downhill day after day and the Rajapaksa family continued to live a life of luxury.

 

When the water reached his throat, President Gotabaya removed Bhai Mahinda from the post of Prime Minister. A new unity government was formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

 

Crisis deepens in Sri Lanka

 

It is believed to be Sri Lanka's worst economic crisis since independence in 1948. The prices of everyday necessities are sky-high, there is a crisis of food and drink and fuel is also not easily available. Due to all this, the common people of Sri Lanka are protesting by taking to the streets.
