
Aligarh: 11 people died and many others were seriously ill due to alleged fake liquor purchased from a contract shop in Aligarh. Aligarh District Magistrate Chandra Bhushan Singh said that 11 people have died due to the consumption of poisonous liquor in the district and some others are ill who have been admitted to the hospital. He said that a time-bound magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident and this investigation will be done by an officer of the Additional District Magistrate level. He said that the administration can impose National Security Act (Raska) against those found guilty in the investigation.
Earlier, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Aligarh Zone Deepak Kumar said that this morning, the Lodha police station received information that two people were found drinking liquor from a contract in Karsia village, about 20 km from here Has died who were identified as truck drivers. He said that the two drivers had come to work in a gas depot located on the Aligarh-Tappal state highway. According to him, by the time police and senior officials of the district reached the spot, information was received that six other people from Karisa and some other nearby villages had also died after drinking alcohol. He said that police teams have been sent to the area and the bodies have been sent for postmortem.

Deputy Commissioner of Excise Department D Sharma said that five villagers in critical condition were taken to Deendayal Upadhyay District Hospital from where they have been shifted to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, Aligarh Muslim University. He said that the liquor shop concerned has been sealed and samples have been collected for testing.
According to residents, some villagers got information on Thursday evening. Villagers fear that the death toll may increase as many people from nearby villages also consumed alcohol and the information about them is not yet clear.
