Most of this gas is emitted from the excreta and urine of living beings. According to the resolution, the emission of this harmful gas will be cut by 30 percent by the end of the current decade. It is believed that to keep the temperature of the atmosphere at 1.5 degrees Celsius, it is necessary to reduce the emission of harmful gases.
Support sought at Glasgow Environment Conference
The US and the European Union (EU) sought the support of the world by presenting a global methane resolution paper at the Glasgow Environment Conference in 2021. US Deputy Special Envoy for the Environment Rich Duke has said that 95 percent of countries have committed to the resolution. They have pledged to make efforts to reduce methane emissions.
