90-Hour Workweek: 'Misunderstood', L&T HR chief defends SN Subramanian's 90-hour work statement

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) HR chief Sonika Muralidharan has defended Chairman SN Subramanian's statement that he advised employees to work 90 hours a week. After this statement, a big debate broke out across the country. Celebrities also reacted amid the controversy. Many industrialists also criticized Subramanian's advice. Sonika Muralidharan has clarified the matter and said that the chairman's comment was misinterpreted. It was taken out of its context and was completely misunderstood.

 

'Never hinted or made a 90-hour work week mandatory'

In a LinkedIn post, she said, 'It is really disappointing to see how the words of our MD and Chairman SN Subramanian were taken out of context, which gave rise to misunderstandings and unnecessary criticism. Having witnessed his statement, I can confidently say that he never indicated or mandated a 90-hour work week.'

 

'Subramanian's comments were casual in nature'

 

According to HR, Subramanian's comments were casual. Speaking on his leadership style, Muralidharan said, 'He treats every employee as part of his family. He fosters a sense of unity and belonging, which is rare in today's corporate world.'

She said that SN Subramanian is without any doubt a leader who genuinely cares about the well-being of his team. He delivers by creating a nurturing and empowering environment for his team.
