The arms race has started once again with the relentless missile attack on Ukraine by Russia. Ukraine has demanded more weapons from its Western allies. The US has promised to deliver more air defense missile systems soon and Germany has promised similar weapons. The NATO chief has also reiterated his promise of continuous assistance to Ukraine.
But Ukraine's demand is different. Kyiv needs more Russian weapons because the Ukrainian military is better equipped with Russian weapons. In such a situation, if he wants to push Russia back, then he will need more such weapons, but there is a shortage of countries supplying Russian weapons in the world.
In this way, America has come forward. He is engaged in mobilizing weapons of the Russian and Soviet-era from his allies around the world so that Ukraine can be helped. America has also got a lot of success in this. Today we will tell about the countries from which America is mobilizing Russian weapons and giving them to Ukraine.
Finland: Providing more AK-47 ammunition
Russia's neighbor Finland is helping America in this. Finland has given Ukraine many weapons from the time of Soviet Russia. This includes ammunition with an AK-47 assault rifle. At the same time, South Korea is supplying bulletproof jackets, helmets, and medical equipment.
US Secretary of State running a diplomatic campaign
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been running a diplomatic campaign to mobilize Russian weapons. Under this, he recently visited Cambodia, Congo, Rwanda, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru. During this, these countries supported Ukraine, but have not been ready to give deadly Russian weapons. America is constantly trying to persuade them to give arms.
The 35-year-old ban on taking Tor and Bak missile systems from Cyprus lifted
Cyprus has been a victim of enmity between its two neighbors Greece and Turkey since its independence. These two countries Greece and Turkey are also NATO members. The government of part of Cyprus has the support of Greece. At the same time, Turkey has occupied the other part of Cyprus.
In the 1970s, troubled Cyprus turned to the Soviet Union and Russia for arms. After this, America imposed strict sanctions on Cyprus. If seen, today Cyprus has at least 10 Tor and Bak missile systems that can shoot down Russian fighter planes, drones, and cruise missiles. These weapons can be of great use to Ukraine. With the help of these weapons, Ukraine can push Russia back in the war.
In such a situation, America is now engaged in getting these Russian weapons from Cyprus to Ukraine, but Cyprus has put a condition on the matter of giving arms to Ukraine. The Cypriot government says it needs a new and better replacement, a cut of Turkey's weapons. To overcome this obstacle, the US lifted the arms embargo on Cyprus on 1 October last. That is, now he will be able to sell his weapons to Cyprus.
US officials said it took years to wean Cyprus away from Russia. In such a situation, Cyprus can now prove to be the best option to supply arms to Ukraine. The spokesman for the Cyprus government, Marios Pelekanos, has also said that if we get a replacement for these weapons, then we can give these weapons to Ukraine.
Former US military officer and military expert Bradley Bowman says Cyprus has a large number of Russian rocket launchers, surface-to-air missiles, helicopters, tanks, and armored vehicles. With the help of these weapons, Ukraine can regain its lost territories. It can also defeat Putin in this war.
Poland is providing the most military aid after the US, UK, and EU
Eastern European countries that were once part of the Soviet Union have also been helping Ukraine since February. Among them are countries like the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Slovakia, and Poland which are now members of NATO. According to the database of the German Kiel Institute, Poland is the fourth country to provide military aid to Ukraine after the US, the UK, and the European Union.
Talks are on to share parts, ammunition, and other equipment and increase production to defense manufacturers, including this week at a high-level meeting at NATO headquarters in Brussels. But the completion of the arms contract could take months, if not years.
NATO holds high-level meeting to increase the supply of arms
A high-level meeting was held this week at the NATO headquarters in Brussels to supply more arms to Ukraine. In this, emphasis was placed on providing more arms, ammunition, and defense equipment to all the members of Ukraine as soon as possible and increasing their production. However, it will take months if not years for these weapons to be dealt with.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday that we will ask the defense ministers of the member countries to give Ukraine a separate range of weapons. It should have not only air defense systems but also artillery, armored tanks, and ammunition. He said that Ukraine needed almost everything and the allies were providing it with more and more weapons.
23 non-NATO countries have more than 6,300 Russian weapons
In July, the Washington think-tank Foundation for Defense of Democracies prepared a blueprint for giving Ukraine more and more Russian weapons. The think tank had identified 23 non-NATO countries that have more than 6,300 weapons dating back to the Soviet Union and Russia that could be useful to Ukraine. These countries also criticized it, blaming Russian President Vladimir Putin for this war. However, these potential countries do not include Cyprus.
Russia is also buying ammunition from North Korea and drones from Iran
Russia's arsenal of weapons in the Ukraine war has become empty. Russian President Vladimir Putin has now taken refuge in North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. Russia is buying millions of rockets and artillery shells from North Korea. Along with this, Russia also bought fighter drones from Iran in August.
In fact, the ammunition North Korea wants to sell is made from imitations of Soviet-era weapons and can be fitted to Russian launchers. Lee Ilwu, an expert associated with the Korean Defense Network in South Korea, says that in Korea, divided into North and South by the most fortified border for the last 70 years, both keep millions of artillery shells ready. North Korea would like to sell these old ammunition and replace them with new ammunition that will be more useful for multiple rocket launchers and advanced missiles.
Russia also attacked Ukraine for the first time last week with the Shaheed-129 suicide drone purchased from Iran. The Shaheed-129 drone is compared to Israel's Hermes 450 UAV and America's MQ-1 Predator. Shaheed-129 can carry out both espionage and combat missions. It can stay in the air for up to 24 hours. In terms of size, build and purpose, it is considered the most successful drone of Iran's arsenal.
