The 38th match of the World Cup 2023 between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on Monday was full of controversies. In the match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 3 wickets with 53 balls remaining.

 

However, this match became the center of discussion due to Angelo Mathews, who became the first cricketer to be timed out in the history of international cricket. Angelo Mathews was quite disappointed after being given out due to a time delay. He talked a lot with the umpires and the opposing team but had to return to the pavilion disappointed.

 

After this, Angelo Mathews showed great strength in bowling and took two wickets. Mathews made Nazmul Hussain Shanto and Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan his victims. However, their efforts were not enough and Sri Lanka had to face defeat.

 

Angelo Mathews expressed anger

In the post-match press conference, Angelo Mathews lashed out at Bangladesh and said that he has never seen any team stoop so low in his 15-year international career.

I would be late if it took more than two minutes. It is written in the law that you have to be ready within two minutes and I reached the crease in 45 or 50 seconds. My helmet broke and I still had five seconds left. The umpires told our coach that they did not see my helmet broken. I mean I was just asking for my helmet.

 

Mathews filled out the video

Players of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh did not shake hands after the match. Mathews said that to date he had respected Bangladesh, but to get respect one also needs to give respect. The all-rounder also said that Sri Lanka Cricket will provide video evidence that he had time before being given out.

 

I respected Shakib Al Hasan and the Bangladesh team a lot. Of course, you all play to win. If it is within the rules then it is fine.
