The anti-rape bill was introduced in the Bengal Assembly today i.e. on Tuesday, which was passed unanimously. This bill provides for the death penalty to the person guilty of rape and the death of the victim. Along with this, there is also a provision for life imprisonment without bail to the guilty of rape and gang rape. During the discussion on the bill in the assembly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee termed this bill as historic.

The Chief Minister said that the accused of rape should get strict punishment. BJP MLAs Shikha Chatterjee, Agnimitra Paul, and Shubhendu Adhikari also put forth their views in the discussion on this bill in the assembly. The Chief Minister said that under the provisions of this bill, we will form a special Aparajita Task Force to complete the investigation promptly. So that the investigation in the case of crimes against women and children can be completed in the stipulated time and the culprits can be punished.

After the Kolkata incident, there is a demand to strengthen the law

The Bengal government's bill 'Aparajita Mahila and Bal Bill (West Bengal Criminal Law and Amendment) Bill 2024' aims to strengthen the protection of women and children by amending the new provisions related to rape and harrasment offenses. Last month, a female doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The uproar over this incident has not stopped yet. There is a demand to take strict steps for women's safety in the state.

In such a situation, the state government had announced to convene a two-day special session of the Legislative Assembly from Monday. In this special session, the anti-rape bill was introduced by the state Law Minister Moloy Ghatak on Tuesday. At the same time, Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari said that they want the bill to be made a law and implemented as soon as possible.

Former Principal Sandip Ghosh arrested

In the RG Kar Medical College case of Kolkata, former Principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh has been arrested by the CBI. It is being told that Sandip Ghosh has been arrested in a corruption case. In fact, during the investigation itself, a former officer of the medical college had made serious allegations of corruption against Sandip Ghosh, who was also investigated by the CBI. On August 9, when a doctor was raped and murdered while on duty in the medical college, Sandip Ghosh's role in that case is also under question.
