New Delhi: In Lockdown 4.0, there are some signs of change in everyday life. Expectations of concession starting in lockdown have started from Monday. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hinted at opening a public transport network on Thursday. However, the Delhi government is yet to announce the relaxation of Lockdown 4.0.
Metro, bus and cab facilities can be operational
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) have already issued new travel guidelines, including social distancing and precaution, by people, who are in the Delhi disaster. Public transport will be used after getting official approval from the Management Authority (DDMA) and the central government.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has completely stopped the metro service from 22 March, currently 50 percent of the buses are running in the city. By which people can use buses for essential services. In both modes of transport half the capacity of people on alternate seats in common points and using the Arogya Setu app and face masks is allowed. Also, hand cleaning or hand washing will also be provided at the entry points.
A DTC official said, "However, we have not set a date to resume services for the common people." Whenever buses will be allowed. Many restrictions will be imposed on them, such as not entering without a mask, adhering to social distancing, etc. The official said that DTC will encourage cashless transactions to issue tickets during the bus journey and will sanitize the buses at the end of each journey.
On the other hand, there will be thermal screening of passengers during admission to DMRC and entry will not be allowed inside the metro having flu-like symptoms. The Coronavirus lockdown, announced on March 24, was to end on April 14. But this has been extended to 3 May and later to 17 May. Now the central and state governments are discussing the situation after 17 May.
Kejriwal said on Thursday that many people have given their suggestions to resume transport services including auto-rickshaws and taxis. Kejriwal said, 'Most of the people are in favor of restarting the bus services with strict social distancing norms. People have also suggested that metros should be opened in a limited way.
About 3,700 buses under DTC and 2,300 about DITTS related buses were plying in the city before the lockdown. As of February, about 4 million people boarded 5,500 buses per day. The Delhi Metro, with a network of 389 km, used to travel around 6 million people per day. The metro network is spread over Delhi-NCR, with 285 stations.
