SBI Q2 Results 2026: Profit Soars 14.3% to ₹23,038 Crore, Net Interest Income Up 15%

State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, has reported a year-on-year increase in profit for the July–September quarter of FY27. The bank posted a net profit of ₹23,038 crore, marking growth of approximately 14% compared with ₹20,160 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

The latest SBI Q2 FY27 results also showed an increase in net interest income (NII), a key measure of a bank’s core lending performance. SBI’s NII stood at ₹49,143 crore during the September quarter.

SBI Q2 FY27 results: Key highlights

Net profit: ₹23,038 crore

Previous-year net profit: ₹20,160 crore

Net profit growth: Approximately 14%

Net interest income: ₹49,143 crore

Reporting period: July–September 2026

The profit increase reflects the bank’s performance during the second quarter of FY27. Reuters reported that loan demand from businesses and households, including small and medium enterprises, housing and vehicle borrowers, supported growth. It also reported that the quarter’s results benefited from a one-time gain linked to SBI’s sale of a stake in SBI Funds Management.

SBI net interest income reaches ₹49,143 crore

SBI reported net interest income of ₹49,143 crore in Q2 FY27. NII represents the difference between the interest a bank earns on loans and investments and the interest it pays on deposits and borrowings.

The year-on-year growth percentage requires a small clarification. The supplied comparison figure of ₹42,984 crore implies an increase of around 14.3%. Reuters, however, reported NII growth of 14.7%, indicating a different comparison base. The previous-year NII figure and growth rate should therefore be checked against SBI’s detailed results statement before publication as a definitive pair.

Stake sale also contributes to quarterly performance

According to Reuters, SBI’s quarterly results received a boost from a one-time gain of ₹7,288 crore following the sale of nearly 6% of SBI Funds Management, including through a pre-IPO placement.

Reuters also reported that SBI divested a 0.65% stake in the National Stock Exchange during its IPO. The proceeds from that transaction were credited to capital reserves rather than recognised in the profit and loss account.

What SBI’s Q2 results mean

Net profit and net interest income are important indicators of a bank’s financial performance. Profit growth reflects the overall outcome after income, expenses and provisions, while NII offers insight into the performance of its core banking operations.

Investors and analysts will also track loan growth, deposit mobilisation, net interest margins and asset quality to assess whether the bank can sustain its performance in the coming quarters.
