Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke over the phone on Thursday with leaders from Qatar, France, Jordan, Oman, and Malaysia to discuss the West Asia crisis. The Prime Minister also condemned the targeting of energy installations amidst the conflict involving Iran. Attacks on energy infrastructure have now become a feature of the West Asia conflict, sparking fears of a global surge in oil and gas prices.

PM Modi Speaks with Various Leaders

In separate conversations held with the leaders of these five nations, Prime Minister Modi called for initiatives involving dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace, security, and stability in West Asia as soon as possible. Additionally, discussions were held regarding the need to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz in order to address the global energy crisis.

During his conversation with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, PM Modi stated that India stands with Qatar and strongly condemns attacks on energy infrastructure within the region. PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the Emir for the care and support extended to the Indian community residing in Qatar, and conveyed his wishes for peace and stability in the region. PM Modi also extended advance Eid greetings to the ruler of Qatar.

Prime Minister Modi addressed King Abdullah II of Jordan as “my brother” and extended advance Eid greetings to him as well. Similarly, PM Modi held conversations with the heads of state of France, Oman, and Malaysia.

Attacks on Energy Infrastructure in West Asia Escalate

The crisis in West Asia is having a far-reaching impact across the globe. The situation has deteriorated further, particularly following Israel’s attack on Iran’s South Pars gas field. In the wake of the Israeli strike, Iran launched attacks on gas and energy installations in Kuwait and Qatar. These attacks have sent shockwaves across the entire world. Subsequently, US President Trump stated that energy facilities would not be targeted and also mentioned that he was unaware of any attack on Iran’s gas fields. An attack on Qatar’s gas fields could lead to a rise in global gas prices.
