Kolkata, March 20 (IANS) The BSF on Friday arrested a Bangladeshi national in West Bengal's Malda district and seized 27 kg silver from his possession, an officer said.

The Border Security Force (BSF) made the arrest and seizure from a Bangladeshi truck during a search operation at Mohaddipur check post.

"The Bangladesh truck entered India on Thursday with clothing items and after unloading when the vehicle was searched during its return, 27 kg silver value at Rs.9.70 lakh was found," a BSF officer said.

"The driver and the seized precious metal have been handed over to police."

In another operation on Thursday, BSF troopers seized about 1 kg of crude heroin powder along the India-Bangladesh border in Murshidabad district.

The seizure was made near Renu border outpost in the district when a BSF party challenged a suspected smuggler. While the smuggler managed to flee, he left behind two packets in which the crude heroin was kept.
