Biden's big decision to save the environment: Important parts of the environment policy restored, Trump had stopped citing development

US President Joe Biden on Tuesday reinstated parts of the National Environment Policy Act (NEPA). Former President Donald Trump had banned parts of this law. Trump said that due to these development plans like mines, road expansion was being affected.

After the reinstatement of this law, federal agencies will now be required to inform local communities before approving plans such as highways, pipelines, and mining.

Information on greenhouse gas emissions will also have to be collected

According to the White House, now federal agencies will also have to collect information about how much greenhouse gas they will emit before approving any plan. Along with this, what will be the effect on the highways, bridges, and infrastructure existing there due to climate change?

Along with this, the Environment Quality Council will also see that the agencies that approve the schemes give a major role in the approval process to the communities affected by it. However, some leaders of the Republican Party are also opposing it. He says that this additional review will lead to unnecessary delay in the implementation of development plans.

The National Environment Policy Act was enacted in 1970.

The National Environment Policy Act was ratified by the government of President Richard Nixon in 1970, after several environmental disasters. The main objective of this act was to maintain harmony with the environment while doing infrastructure development.
