Regarding the murder of his PA, Chandranath Rath, in Madhyamgram, Bengal, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has stated that it was a premeditated killing executed as part of a calculated conspiracy. A comprehensive plan was devised for the act, and reconnaissance was conducted over a period of two to three days.
Speaking to journalists outside the hospital, Suvendu Adhikari said, "This was a premeditated murder—a fact that the DGP has also acknowledged. Reconnaissance was carried out for two to three days, and the entire assassination plot was meticulously planned. The police have initiated an investigation. We are plunged into grief and are at a loss for words to condemn this heinous incident."
'Police Discover Clues'
"Our entire leadership in Delhi has sought information regarding this matter. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar has spoken with the [deceased's] family as well as the police. Various leaders and elected MLAs have arrived here from their respective constituencies. The police have recovered certain pieces of evidence and will proceed with their investigation," he added. He further remarked, "This is the consequence of 15 years of 'Jungle Raj' [lawlessness]. The BJP will now undertake the task of purging this area of such criminal elements."
What Did the DGP Say?
West Bengal DGP Siddha Nath Gupta stated, "We have commenced an investigation into this case. We have seized the four-wheeled vehicle used in the commission of the crime; however, reports suggest that the vehicle's license plate is fake and has been tampered with. We have recovered spent cartridges and live rounds from the crime scene. Eyewitness accounts and physical evidence are currently being scrutinized, and further investigations are underway."
What Did an Eyewitness Reveal?
An eyewitness recounted, "As soon as Chandra's car passed by mine, it suddenly came to a halt in the middle of the road. A man riding a motorcycle approached the vehicle and opened fire on the left-hand side. He appeared to be highly skilled in his execution and immediately fled the scene. It seemed as though the entire sequence of events had been meticulously planned in advance." "The shots were fired from very close range."
He further added, "I heard the sound of two rounds of gunfire. This incident occurred between 10:30 PM and 11:00 PM, at a distance of 200–300 meters from the hospital. People rushed the injured victim to the hospital; the car's driver had also sustained a gunshot wound."
Car Surrounded; Rapid-Fire Shots Fired
Four shots were fired at Chandranath Rath while he was inside the moving car; three of these rounds struck him. The suspects pursued his vehicle, and as the car slowed down, they opened fire. Bullet marks and cracks were clearly visible on the front left-side window of the car.
Chandranath Rath had been working for Suvendu Adhikari for several years, managing his political coordination and other affairs. This PA was considered to be a member of Suvendu Adhikari's inner circle.
