The CBI is preparing to send summons again to TeamAC leader Anubrata Mandal in the animal smuggling case. Earlier, he was summoned yesterday i.e. on Monday, but he refused to reach the CBI office citing health reasons. A CBI official said officers would be sent to the TMC leader's residence in Bolpur to serve summons so that he appears before the CBI in connection with the probe.
"CBI officials are going to his Bolpur residence to ensure that Mandal is summoned in person so that he cannot say that he did not get the summons," he said. "Anubrata Mandal has been summoned for questioning at the Nizam's Palace office at 11 am on Wednesday," he said. He has been questioned twice earlier by the federal agency in connection with the investigation of the case. CBI has recently conducted raids in this case at various places in the district. Mandal's bodyguard Sehgal Hussain has also been arrested by the investigating agency.
The fourth charge sheet was presented yesterday
The CBI on Monday submitted its fourth charge sheet in an animal smuggling case in an Asansol court in which 11 people, including TMC leader Anubrata Mondal's bodyguard Sehgal Hussain, have been named as accused. In the 40-page charge sheet, the CBI alleged that Hussain was instrumental in diverting money from animal smugglers to Anubrata Mandal, who is the Birbhum president of TMC.
Documents of 49 properties found from Hussain
Hussain, a policeman posted in Mandal's security, acquired assets worth crores of rupees. A CBI official said investigators have found documents of 49 properties in his possession. He said the call records of Hussain's mobile phone showed that he was in direct contact with smugglers and cattle ranchers. Sehgal completed 60 days in CBI custody on Monday and the agency was to file its preliminary charge sheet by 5 pm as per law.
