Taliban has taken over Afghanistan. Every country is surprised by the speed with which the Taliban has captured Afghanistan. Many countries like India, America, Qatar, Uzbekistan, UK, European Union, Germany have announced that they will not recognize Taliban rule in Afghanistan. However, China, which teaches peace lessons to others, has no more problems than the Taliban who speak the language of guns. China has already made it clear that it is in the mood to recognize the Taliban, but what is the reason for this? China had not recognized the previous rule of the Taliban, but this time both are seen increasing the tension of friendship.
China's 76 km-long border is with Afghanistan. Beijing has long feared that Afghanistan might become a platform for the minority Uighur community living in the sensitive province of Xinjiang. Beijing felt that the Taliban rule in Afghanistan could encourage separatism by the minority Muslim community in its Xinjiang province. Xinjiang province is bordered by Afghanistan, Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, and Central Asian countries like Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan.
Taliban made this promise to China
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar will likely be made the next President of Afghanistan. Last month, a Taliban delegation led by Baradar met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi In in Tianjin. During this, the Taliban had promised the Chinese foreign minister that it would not allow Afghan soil to be used as a base for Uighur extremists.
According to a recent UN report, hundreds of terrorists from the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), affiliated with the Al Qaeda terror outfit, are mobilizing in Afghanistan amid military advances made by the Taliban in the country. Apart from this, Afghanistan is the best way for China to reach Central Asia. China is preparing to invest in Afghanistan under the Belt and Road Initiative.
What is the benefit of friendship with China to the Taliban?
The Taliban is also seeing its advantage in leaving China's Uighur Muslims. China has promised the Taliban that if it fulfills its wish, in return, Beijing will provide financial assistance to Afghanistan as well as provide investment for the reconstruction of Afghanistan. Apart from this, getting recognition from a big Asian country like China will also help the Taliban to gain legitimacy at the international level. Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen also said that if China invests in Afghanistan, the Taliban will guarantee its security.
