Today, 33 years ago on June 4, 1989, in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, the capital of China, thousands of people were agitating for a peaceful demand for democracy. The government brought down the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China to crush this movement. After this, the situation of destruction created by the army still shakes the soul of the people.
The PLA did not miss even firing bullets and bombs at the people to crush the movement. Tanks were taken down the streets and unarmed people were trampled on. In different media reports, it was said that 10 thousand people were killed. However, China never made the exact death toll public.
This incident still scares the Chinese government so much that it has banned the content related to this massacre. At that time, this action of the Chinese was strongly criticized internationally. Since then, the Chinese government has been very cautious. Now it has removed the monuments associated with this movement, especially the 'Statue of Democracy', from Tiananmen Square.
Trying to remove traces of history - Antony Blinken
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has targeted the Chinese government over this act. Antony Blinken wrote – An attempt has been made to remove the traces of history by removing the monuments from Tiananmen Square. Despite this, America will continue to promote respect for human rights.
This is how the performance started
Students started a demonstration in Tiananmen Square against the death of Hu Yaobang, the leader of the Free Thought Party, which soon started calling for democracy in the country. Protesters soon began demanding an end to official corruption, as well as the removal of the party from power. Officially, there were different reactions to these demonstrations. Due to this the ongoing conflict between the reformists and the conservatives in power also came to the fore. Protests broke out across China and thousands began to gather in the capital.
Fearing chaos in the society, conservative forces imposed military rule in the country, but a crowd of protesters gathered in Tiananmen Square. On May 30, the students installed the 'Statue of Democracy' and thousands of people welcomed it with applause. At last, the party decided to take action against them.
Even today information related to the massacre is not available on the internet
On June 4, 1989, Deng Xiangping and other leaders ordered the army to evacuate Tiananmen Square. At first, the government claims that no one was killed in the square, but hundreds of protesters were killed by army gunfire on the streets around it. However, later the government had said that 200 people were killed.
Today the Chinese government has blocked some words on the Internet. Due to this people are not able to get information about Tiananmen Square. Among these words, Six Four, 23, Candle, and Never Forget are the main ones. The government does not want people to be able to remember this movement in any way.
