Every day a new twist is being seen in the Russia-Ukraine war that started on February 24 last year. Recently, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin on charges of war crimes. At the same time, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Moscow and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited Kyiv. On the other hand, Western countries and America are continuously providing military assistance to Ukraine. The UK is providing basic army skills to Ukrainian soldiers at four locations in the country.
'Basic training to equip you with skills and experience'
The UK aims to train 20,000 Ukrainian personnel by the end of the year. It has trained 10,000 Ukrainian recruits since June 27. Major Trucker Middleton, commanding officer of the UK training team, explained, "The training is very basic. Most of the recruits have very little military experience. We treat them as civilians and then give them the right skills they need." And provide basic training to equip them with experience, so that they can defend their motherland." He also said that the duration of the training program for newly recruited Ukrainian soldiers is a few weeks.
What is being taught in training for Ukrainian soldiers?
Along with Britain, military teams from Canada and Lithuania are also working to provide necessary training to Ukrainian soldiers. Major Jürgen Miranda, the commanding officer of the Canadian team, said, "The training is focused on basic military skills. So our main objective is to teach these soldiers to shoot, move, communicate, and give on the battlefield so that they can fight this war." It is our endeavor that by the end of this training they should be more effective and lethal on the battlefield and capable of defending their country. The training includes handling of weapons, first aid on the battlefield, fieldcraft, patrolling tactics, etc."
Army's defensive strategy being taught in training: Ukrainian soldier
"We have already trained 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers and we expect that number to continue to grow to have more than 20,000 soldiers on the battlefield," Miranda said. Igor, a Ukrainian soldier on training in the UK, said: "It is a valuable and interesting experience for me. We are being taught by our colleagues how to defend our land and the defensive strategy of the army. We are currently here in Operation Urban ) and are training on." Igor is a native of Odesa (Ukraine). He told that he used to make handmade leather items before joining the army.
