Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday said that the government is focusing on last-mile connectivity of Tier 3 cities to ensure the democratization of civil aviation in the country.
Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, Scindia said that there is very good connectivity between Tier I-II cities in India.
"There is a need to strengthen last-mile connectivity for Tier-III cities. Our government is focusing on last-mile connectivity to ensure democratization of civil aviation," Scindia said during Question Hour.
The Civil Aviation Minister said the government is looking at the small aircraft scheme launched last year, under which sub-20 seater aircraft are being used to provide last-mile connectivity.
Scindia said that 132 routes have been included under UDAN 4.2, the last round, of which there are 16 helicopter routes in key areas and about 50 sea routes. Responding to a question on aero sports, Scindia said that it is a new sector and has a great future in the country. He said, "In the West, aero sports... are in vogue, looking at the winters in India we can bring all those aero sports to India because of the weather patterns in India."
The minister said the government has set up an aero sports organization, which will be decentralized into units in different states. "The central units as well as each state unit will focus on simplifying the process so that we can spread it across the country," Scindia said.
