The accused who opened fire on Imran Khan's long march in Wazirabad, Gujranwala on Thursday has been arrested. The police have not yet given information about his exact name. In some reports, his name has been mentioned as Faisal and in some as Javed Iqbal.
Many senior journalists in Pakistan have shared the video of the statement given in police custody of this attacker. In this, the accused said that he had come alone to attack. He wanted to kill Imran because the deck (DJ) kept ringing even during the azaan in Khan's long march. The police have not officially given any information about this till now.
What did the accused say?
The accused said in police custody- I did this (firing at Imran) because Imran is misleading people. I did not see this thing and I tried to kill him. I had only come to kill Imran Khan. I wanted to kill him because there used to be azaan here and there Khan used to make noise by DJing. This was not acceptable to my conscience.
During the interrogation by the police, the accused said – I took this decision suddenly. There was no planning for this in advance. The day this long march started from Lahore, I had decided that I would not leave Imran. There is no one behind me, I have done this work alone. I had come by bike and had parked it at my uncle's shop.
how many attackers were there
Pakistan's intelligence agencies ISI and IB have also reached this accused for questioning. According to reports, the police are not sure that the accused carried out the incident alone. The reason for this is that Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Punjab province Imran has been given tremendous security cover. Apart from this, Khan's armed personal security guards are also present there.
The question before the police is that if the accused had any other partner, then where is he? The reason for this is that some journalists, including the news agency AFP, are also saying that an attacker was killed on the spot. According to Amin Ahmed, a leader of Imran's party, the person who was killed was a PTI worker.
Army can intervene
The mighty army and ISI had a hand in taking Imran Khan to the pinnacle of power. When they proved unsuccessful on every front, both of them stopped supporting. After this, Khan's government fell at the beginning of the year and he is now openly challenging the army and ISI.
Imran wants the army to support him again and bring him to power. On the other hand, the army and intelligence agencies say that they have distanced themselves from politics forever.
The current Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa is retiring on November 29. Imran wants that former ISI chief General Faiz Hameed should be made army chief in place of General Bajwa. Faiz is a very close friend and Rajdar of Imran. For this reason, General Bajwa removed him from the position of ISI Chief and made him Corps Commander Peshawar citing rules.
At present, the ISI Chief is Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum. He is said to be very strict and an officer who stays away from the media. Although it is also true that just 10 days ago, Nadeem had to hold a press conference to answer Imran's propaganda.
