Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla on the situation arising due to heavy rains and floods in the region. PM Modi has assured all possible help and support. Meanwhile, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, 'A while ago the Prime Minister called me to inquire about the current flood situation in Assam. I told him how incessant rains in Assam and adjoining states have caused floods and have affected the lives of many people. I also apprised him of the relief work being carried out by the state government. The Prime Minister expressed concern and assured full support from the Central Government for our relief and rehabilitation efforts. Grateful for his guidance and unwavering support to the people of Assam.'

 

NDRF team reaches Chatten to search for missing soldiers

Meanwhile, a team of 23 NDRF personnel reached Chatten in North Sikkim on Tuesday to search and rescue six soldiers who went missing in an army camp after being hit by a landslide in Sikkim. The official said that the NDRF team is equipped with satellite phones and necessary emergency equipment. Three army personnel were killed and six soldiers went missing after a landslide hit an army camp here. The landslide, which occurred near Lachen town in Mangan district at 7 pm on Sunday, was caused by heavy rains in the area.

 

Schools closed in Aizawl due to heavy rains.

Schools in Aizawl remained closed for the fourth day on Tuesday due to incidents of landslides, mudflows and rock falls in various parts of Mizoram due to heavy rains. A notification issued by Aizawl deputy commissioner and district disaster management authority chairman Lalhriatpuia said that all schools in Aizawl district are advised to suspend the attendance of school students on June 3 to ensure the safety and well-being of students. Heavy rains lashed the capital Aizawl on Tuesday morning. Earlier, all schools across the state were closed due to rains for three days on May 29, 30, and June 2.

 

Flood situation is grim in Assam, over 5.35 lakh people affected

The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Tuesday, with over 5.35 lakh people affected in over 20 districts. The weather department has predicted more rain in many parts. The Guwahati-based Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued an 'orange alert' for four districts - Dhubri, South Salmara Mankachar, Goalpara, and Kokrajhar - for Tuesday. The situation remained grim, with the death toll in the floods and landslides rising to 11, while two others remained missing, officials said. Road, rail, and ferry services in the state remained affected due to heavy rains in many areas.
