Does Sharad Pawar himself now want to take over the reins of UPA? Congress also reacted to the signals

Due to the continuous defeat in the elections, questions have been raised on the leadership of the Gandhi family within the Congress party, now its ally NCP has demanded that the Congress should hand over the leadership of the UPA to Sharad Pawar. Since 2004, Sonia Gandhi has been in charge of the UPA, a coalition of opposition parties led by Congress. On Tuesday, in a meeting of the National Executive of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the youth wing of the Nationalist Congress Party, in Delhi, a resolution was passed to make Sharad Pawar the UPA President. Sharad Pawar has so far denied the possibility of becoming the UPA president. Congress has also said that Pawar himself has denied this question.

But this time the big thing was that when the resolution to be handed over to UPA President Pawar was passed, Pawar himself was present on the stage. The question is whether Congress will accept Sharad Pawar's leadership? In the presence of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, the party's youth wing meeting passed a resolution to make him the UPA president. Even before this, NCP leaders have made this demand. Some time back Shiv Sena had also advocated this. But the old political stalwart Sharad Pawar has always publicly denied this. But the way the resolution was passed in his presence raised the question of whether Pawar himself now wants to take over the reins of the UPA and challenge Modi as the prime ministerial candidate in the next Lok Sabha elections?

This demand has arisen afresh because Congress has been badly defeated in the recently concluded assembly elections. Since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress has not been able to perform well anywhere except in Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. In these three states too, Congress has the status of a junior partner. During this, Congress could not save its government in Puducherry and Punjab. Due to the attitude of Rahul Gandhi and the leaders close to him, a camp of dissatisfied leaders has formed within the Congress. Big leaders like Kapil Sibal are openly demanding that the Gandhi family should leave the party leadership. Allies of Congress feel that in such conditions Congress cannot compete with BJP.

Supporting the demand of the party's youth wing, NCP leader Majid Menon has said that despite being the single largest party, Congress is not in a position to lead the UPA due to its internal disputes. Time is running out for 2024, so Congress should hand over the command of UPA to Sharad Pawar. Majid Menon said that Sharad Pawar is such a leader whose image is of such a big leader who has a ground hold.

Nationalist Youth Congress National President Dheeraj Sharma said that Sharad Pawar is a person who has relations with Congress along with all regional parties. They can match the best. The country needs Sharad Pawar's experience. Many parties are not with Congress, everyone can come together because of Sharad Pawar.

NCP has made its intentions clear. But the Congress is avoiding giving a direct answer to this challenge. Senior leader Shakti Singh Gohil, when asked about the demand of NCP to give the command of UPA to Pawar, said that when Sharad Pawar himself has refused, then why talk about other leaders?

The NCP's claim on the UPA chair is new trouble for the Congress amid the challenge of satraps like Mamata Banerjee, Chandrashekhar Rao, and Arvind Kejriwal. If Congress does not recover soon, then the situation will be out of its control forever.
